AgentOS Licensing 2

Overview

AgentOS requires a license issued by Symbient AI. Licenses are delivered as activation tokens that you enter when you first run AgentOS.

1. Prerequisites

  • Your organization must have a Symbient AI group account. For more information, please see: Getting Started With Symbient AI.

  • An administrator of that account must generate an activation token for you.

2. Activation Steps

  1. Launch AgentOS
    You’ll see a pop‑up asking for:

    • Activation Token – the code you received from your admin. The Activation Token should look like this: AGOS-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

  2. Enter the Token
Paste the token into the field and click Activate.

  3. What Happens Behind the Scenes

    • AgentOS sends the token and a unique machine fingerprint to Symbient’s activation endpoint.

    • Symbient validates the token, checks that your organization hasn’t exceeded its seat limit, and returns a signed license certificate.

  4. Successful Activation

    • You’ll see your license details on the Global Settings page.

    • The license sets the limit on the number of workspaces you can create.

3. License Renewal & Expiry

  • Automatic Renewal – If your certificate is within 14 days of its expiry date, AgentOS will automatically refresh it the next time it contacts Symbient (no user action needed).

  • Expiry – If the certificate expires and cannot be refreshed, you’ll be redirected to the activation screen and will need a new token from your admin.

4. What If the License Is Revoked?

If your organization’s license is revoked or suspended, AgentOS will detect this on its next background check and will immediately redirect you to the activation screen. Contact your admin for a new token.

5. License Limits

There are two limitations within a License that handle the user and workspace limits.

  1. Active Seats: The number of Active devices that can be associated with your License.

  2. Max Workspaces per Seat: The number of Workspaces each Seat may create.

Trying to create more than the allowed number of Workspaces will display an error such as:

"Your license allows a maximum of 5 workspaces. You have 5. Remove an existing workspace or contact your administrator to increase the limit."

6. "Check Now" button

After a license renews or an admin makes a change, you can go to Global Settings and click "Check Now" to pick up the updated License information.

6. Frequently Asked Questions

Question

Answer

Do I need an internet connection to use AgentOS?

An internet connection is required once for the initial activation and for periodic background verification. After activation, AgentOS can run offline for up to 30 days. AgentOS keeps working normally during those 30 days and will show a warning about being offline.

Who can generate tokens?

Organization admins, LL admins, or LL‑partner admins via the Admin Panel.

Where is the license stored?

In ~/.agentos/license.json on the user’s machine.

What happens to the raw token?

It is shown only once and never stored in plaintext. Symbient keeps only a SHA‑256 hash.

7. Need Help?

  • Contact your administrator for a new token or to increase seat limits.
